Danielle + Grady // MOAS

Saturday, September 19, 2020, was a lucky and rainy day for Danielle and Grady’s special day.
The heavy rain may have limited us to what we could do outside, but that didn’t stop us from making the most of what we could artistically do inside this gorgeous museum!
Prior to the wedding, I had met with D+G at the venue to discuss all of their favorite spots
within the CiCi and Hyatt Brown section of MOAS in Daytona.
This would be my first time shooting at this venue,
but that didn’t necessarily concern me,
as it did make me ecstatic to hear that I would FINALLY be blending the art
I create with my clients along with a true art gallery.

Let’s start with the details!

If you haven’t heard of the old English rhyme: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Check it out! Here’s a look into the history of Danielle’s “good luck” charms.

The “Something Old”.

This meaningful, heirloom necklace originally belonged to Danielle’s grandmother.
It contains a mustard seed.
Danielle shared with me that as a child, she loved to look through her grandmother’s jewelry box. When she asked about this tiny seed (approx. 1-2 diameters) Danielle’s grandmother always used to recite Matthew 17:20.

The saying goes that Jesus said if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can move a mountain. What stops us from moving mountains whether literally or figuratively speaking, is doubt. It immediately comes as soon as you see a situation bigger than you.


Danielle wanted to borrow it, but instead, she gifted it to her. It became her much appreciated “Something Old”.

Danielle wood-burned the hangers for the entire wedding party. It’s all of these little extra personalizations that really made their wedding as unique as it was.

The “Marlin” painting was one of Grady’s favorites.
During our site visit at MOAS the three of us walked the museum and discussed which pieces of art stood out from the rest, and which ones they preferred to have as backdrops for their individuals and couples portraits.

This dashing, vintage look for male attire is one of my personal favorites. It’s classic, it’s dramatic, and it’s says, “hi, I’m a gentleman.”
Clearly momma is proud too. :)

The “bird wall” (as we called it) is one of Danielle’s favorite sections of the CiCi and Hyatt Brown section of MOAS. And let me tell you when I heard this, I was like —
OH. FLOCK. YES.

Delicate feathers ornate Danielle’s bouquet, and the men’s boutonnieres and bowties. You’ll even catch a flight of subtle birds making their way in centerpieces too.

Sometimes the bride and groom need to have a moment to stop and really let it soak in the fact that their married.. all of the days, weeks, months, and sometimes years that go into planning for one day and it’s finally here. A beautiful, joyous moment.

What helped make the decision of MOAS as your wedding day venue?

We picked the MOAS because we thought the art captured our love for Florida. We both grew up camping, fishing, and playing outside as kids, and the paintings of the swamps and forests bring back a lot of great memories for us. In fact, the first vacation we took together was to the Everglades/ Florida Keys! We met in college in a summer chemistry class in 2015, so I guess you could say we had a lot of chemistry right off the bat. We spent the following spring break camping in the Keys and doing all the tourist things- snorkeling, feeding the tarpon, eating key lime pie, and exploring the Everglades. We have done a lot of traveling since then, but that first trip we took together is still my favorite.

Oh, Florida weather…
The torrential down-pouring limited us to indoors for nighttime photos, but ultimately, it turned out to be a blessing! We brought the dramatics and intimacy of photos at dusk to incorporate the artistic works around us.
